Escape To The Country

Sights from Devon and Dorset

I recently went on holiday to the countryside and it was a great opportunity for taking close-ups of nature as well as distant landscape shots. (For tips on taking better holiday photos see my previous blog post Happy Snapping).

When taking photos close to the subject I generally used a low numbered aperture, such as f3.5, because I like the blurred background effect this creates. When photographing landscapes I’ve found it is better to use a higher aperture, such as f11, so that more of the photo is in focus. (If you’re not yet familiar with aperture please refer to The Big Three).
