In my opinion, the sun setting over the sea is one of the most beautiful sights you can experience. The golden light reflecting in the water and framed by rose tinted clouds can be simply stunning and no two sunsets are the same.
I am lucky enough to live in the North Somerset town of Clevedon, where we are regularly treated to some spectacular sunsets. Ok, so it may not be setting over the sea exactly – more of a muddy estuary – but who can tell when the sun makes it sparkle so magically!

This evening I could see the sky turning pink as I was driving home and I just had to pull up at the ‘seafront’ for some quick snaps. There were multiple serious looking photographers with their tripods already in position, cameras pointing directly at the sun, all waiting for the perfect moment.
Personally, although the sun itself is beautiful, what I love most about sunsets is the effect the changing light has on everything else. When photographing sunsets, you don’t have to just point your camera at the sun; look for interesting cloud formations, different compositions to frame the sky, the light reflecting in the water, silhouettes, shadows and changing colours.
